We manage many auto injury cases in in our Waldorf, MD office, and a common symptom we see in our patients is shoulder pain. Why is shoulder pain such a common problem after an auto collision? How can chiropractic care help you get better?

There are at least two different ways that you can get shoulder problems after a crash: by direct trauma to the shoulder or by radiating pain from the neck.

Direct trauma can be caused by striking your shoulder on a hard surface in the car during the crash, or can occur if you have a tight grip on the steering wheel during a rear end impact. With this type of trauma, you'll usually be aware of the pain soon after the crash.

More frequently, Dr. Lipsitz finds that shoulder or arm pain does not immediately appear after a collision, but begins a few days or weeks after the trauma. This type of shoulder discomfort actually starts in the neck. Injured ligaments or muscles in your neck can squeeze nerves in your neck, causing tingling, numbness, or pain in your shoulder, elbow, or wrist.

We've treated many types of shoulder problems in our Waldorf, MD office. This process involves chiropractic adjustments to restore your spine's natural mobility and home exercises that strengthen your neck and shoulder.
